The Master’s in Film and Photographic Studies at Leiden University aims to give students a broad academic orientation on film and photography. Particular areas of attention are the interdisciplinary methods in the academic study of film and photography; theories of photography, film and video; the forms of presentation for film and photography (exhibitions, internet, publications, reviews, etc.); and strategies in the field of curatorial practice. Recent developments such as digital photography and new media are also dealt with in the programme. This foundation of knowledge, skills and insights will enable the student to function with academic integrity within the professional field (e.g. as film and photo historian, curator, critic, teacher, etc) or in an academic career.
